Former President Ford was on hand Friday at the unveiling of a new building at the University of Michigan.

Ford told about 400 people in Ann Arbor that when he was a student he used walk past the vacant lot on the campus that will become the new home of the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.

The new building will be an 80,000-square-foot facility to hold classrooms, a library, research centers, a computer laboratory, faculty offices, and public spaces for conferences and lectures.

Construction on the building is to be completed in August 2006.
