A Kalamazoo man died Thursday when the van he was driving struck a deer and the animal crashed through the windshield.

Forty-four-year-old Robert Saint John was heading southbound on Michigan 40 in Allegan County when his van struck the deer.

His wife, Mary Jo Saint John, was in the passenger seat and managed to grab the steering wheel and bring the van to a stop. She suffered minor injuries.
