More than 6,000 acres of land in the Upper Keweenaw Peninsula will be made more accessible to the public.

The area known as Keweenaw Point has few roads and no signs, so it's easy to get lost.

The state Department of Natural Resources recently bought the land and asked residents to make suggestions. Some ideas include road improvements, and camp sites and trails that will help protect the area.

The DNR will review the recommendations over the coming months. Officials expect improvements will be made in three to five years.
