Vehicle Larceny Crime "Explosion" in Lansing

By  |

In the last three weeks of October, 54 drivers reported something stolen from their vehicle. Lt. Bruce Ferguson says this kind of call is relatively new, special to the "Portable Age" when people are carrying laptops, MP3 players, CD players, and cell phones in their cars.

There are larcenies where thieves break-in with force, but most of the crimes are to cars left unlocked. Ferguson says thieves case a neighborhood or a parking lot until they find one that is open. In some cases, they've even found garage door opens and used them to steal from the garage as well.

It is simple and preventable to stop these crimes. Ferguson says lock the door, and better yet, leave your valuables in the trunk when you leave the car.
