Lansing police were on the hunt for an armed robber Wednesday night. They say 26-year-old Brandon Heckard attempted to rob a Burger King on Saginaw and Cedar Streets, but the hold up was unsuccessful.
Police say Heckard then got into a cab from the Spartan-Yellow Company, and asked the driver to go across town to the Sunoco gas station on south Cedar. There, Heckard told the cashier he had a gun, and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. During this time, police believe he asked the cab to park on a side street near Sunoco to wait for him. Heckard then asked to be dropped of in the Meijer parking lot nearby, and walked on foot to DG's Topless Entertainment.
The cab driver called police, and they arrested him at DG's. Heckard is currently in jail on $75,000 bond. Spartan-Yellow Cab Company wished not to identify the driver for his safety. Police do not believe Heckard threatened or harmed the driver in any way.
