Health officials say the infected child does have contact with a child in the Lansing School District. That child reported symptoms of the bacterial illness as well.
Health officials say the child at Herbison Woods contracted the bacteria outside of the school, in a household.
Officials say the spread of the illness through households is the biggest threat right now. Parents are reminded to instruct children to practice careful hand washing.
The Ingham County Health Department reports 37 confirmed cases now and 29 probable cases. Of these, at least eight were contracted in households. They are not all children.
