The former deputy treasurer in Ionia County is charged with embezzling more than $10,000 from the city of Portland.
Laurie Tichvon was arraigned Tuesday. She faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted on charges of stealing and misusing city funds.
The state police in Ionia say Tichvon was in charge of collecting cash and checks from Portland residents.
Detectives say she allegedly used some of the money to buy personal items through a mail order catalog. They say she took the rest and altered city records.
