A CN freight train carrying a highly explosive material derailed in a residential Detroit neighborhood.
The area on the city's east side, including three schools, was evacuated in a mile radius as a precaution. Students were taken by bus from the area so they could be picked up by their parents.
Nine cars left the tracks near Interstate 75, including four tank cars. Some of the tankers were flipped over. There were no reports of injuries.
Some of the cars contained methyl alcohol, which is used as antifreeze and is highly explosive. Some liquid reportedly leaked from the train, but fire officials described the leak as minimal.
