Michigan Traffic Deaths Down

Traffic accidents in Michigan claimed fewer lives last year.

Gov. John Engler announced on Monday that 1,328 people died in auto accidents last year, however that is down almost four percent from the year before.

Auto related accidents were also down almost six percent to 400,813.

Tougher seatbelt laws are being given much of the credit for the drop.

Driver distraction is being blamed for almost 4,300 crashes last year. The total number of alcohol and or drug-related deaths decreased more than two percent.
