Suspect in MSU Bacterian Theft

Updated: Fri 5:06 PM, Sep 20, 2002

MSU authorities say they have a possible suspect in theft of swine bacteria taken from a campus lab.

Law enforcement officers are investigating a person who worked in the Biomedical and Physical Sciences Building at the time of theft, according to MSU spokesperson Terry Denbow.

Evidence suggests that the two stolen strains of the bacterium, used to manufacture swine vaccine, have been destroyed. Neither posed a threat to humans, but could have sickened pigs.

Some research notebooks and computer disks were also taken in the theft.

The possible suspect has not been named.
