The fee that mobile home owners pay instead of property taxes would increase to $144 per year under a bill approved by the state Senate.
Mobile home residents currently pay $3 per month, or $36 dollars a year, for a fee that's paid in lieu of property taxes.
It's been the same amount since 1959.
The Senate voted 24-to-13 to pass the fee increase. A similar measure has been approved by the House, though that chamber will need to sign off on the bill again because some changes were made.
Supporters of the legislation say mobile home residents should pay their fair share for local fire, police, and other services.
