The Ingham County Health Department says the Shigella outbreak at Willow Elementary School in Lansing will likely get bigger.
As of Wednesday night, there were three confirmed cases and 15 suspected cases. All but two of those cases are from Willow students.
Shigella is an intestinal illness that can cause bloody stools, nausea, and vomiting. It can be prevented by practicing careful hygiene and thoroughly cooking foods.
The Lansing School System and the Ingham County Health Department are investigating how the outbreak started. Parents of Willow students have been telephoned and given letters that explain the illness.
