New technology measures patients' vital signs from home and sends the results back to a registered nurse. The nurse can then intervene if the patient needs to be assessed by a medical professional.

Telehealth is not for every home health care patient, and it is not covered by many health insurance plans.

But Cheri Lyn Deary of Great Lakes Home Health and Hospice says this new system is the future of home health care. She says it saves money by intervening before patients get real sick and have to be taken to the hospital or the emergency room. It also allows nurses to monitor more patients in less time.
