Lansing Substitute Teacher Suspended After Tying Student to a Chair

One of the Lansing School District's substitute teachers has been suspended for inappropriately disciplining an Otto Middle School student. The girl's legal guardian says she was tied to a chair.

The substitute has been with the district for awhile and usually filled in for Special Education classes, but was teaching a sixth grade class that day. The girl's guardian says he told her to sit down repeatedly and then tied her to a chair, using a string attached to the girl's jeans, to get her to stay. A few students also took part.

Otto Middle School's Principal is investigating the incident and is also meeting with the students who took part. The substitute has apologized to the girl.
