Lynda Rae Whitman, age 55, apparently went for a walk, as is her custom, around 3 p.m. Saturday. She never returned.
Her family called police on Sunday. They say she was feeling under the weather, but her general health and mental condition are good. They say this behavior is out of character.
Police executed a full-fledged search, walking paths with the canine unit, talking to neighbors, and even bringing out the state's helicopter Monday morning. They followed up on tip calls alerting them to sightings along the road in Okemos and in a township park, and later in Williamston. They finally found her on M-52 near Holt Road.
Whitman was taken to the hospital. She was disoriented and wind burnt. Police believe she had been outside for the entire 48 hours.
