The third Michigan National Guard troop to deploy in the last month took off Wednesday night. Hundreds of friends and family were on-hand to say goodbye.
US Congressman and former army officer, Mike Rogers, was also on hand with kind words and pre-paid phone cards for the troops.
Approximately 150 soldiers from Lansing, Detroit, and Bay City make up the unit. Many we talked to said it would be friends and family they would miss the most, including Shane Abaugh, who is leaving behind his wife Naomi who is seven months pregnant with their first child.
