Flu Shot Clinics Expecting Record Numbers

By  |

Public clinics offering the flu shot have been cancelled. And now even clinics set up to vaccinate high-risk populations, like seniors, are expecting record numbers of people coming to get the shot.

The East Lansing Hannah Community Center is getting ready for one of the first senior flu shot clinics of the season. And they are getting inundated with phone calls from seniors-both local and from communities on the outskirts.

They are prepared, but say there may not be enough shots for all seniors. The Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan will be giving the vaccinations and they will be checking birthdates and doctors' notes. Shots will be given to people 65 years or older or with a chronic medical condition. The latter will need a note from their doctor.

If there is not enough vaccine on Wednesday, seniors are encouraged to read the newspapers and watch local news programs for other flu shot clinics.
