Michigan Political Leaders Size Up Debate

No surprises here. Michigan political leaders are delivering split verdicts on the winner of Thursday night's first presidential debate.

Gov. Granholm says Democratic nominee John Kerry “was the commander in chief of the debate.” She says the Massachusetts senator showed strength and steady command of the facts.

Granholm says she thought President Bush appeared defensive and annoyed. Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Betsy DeVos calls Bush the winner of the debate. She says he offered a clear, concise explanation of his vision for America.

DeVos says Kerry showed the kind of political waffling that might work if he was running for president of France.
