Four months after the city of Lansing's budget is approved, council members may have to make changes in order to keep from dipping into the city's rainy day fund.
The city's Finance Director, Glenn Kirk, presented the plan Monday. It's a plan Kirk says will keep the city from taking as little as $1.8 million but as much as $5 million from the reserves. Some of Kirk's plan includes finding a more efficient way to purchase medical insurance, finding additional revenues for the city zoo and golf courses and cutting down on fleet car and cell phone usage.
But Council Member Carol Wood isn't so sure the plan will work. Wood says some of the savings could be there but council has yet to see the bottom line figures.
No decisions have been made yet; council will revisit the issue at its next Committee of the Whole Meeting on October 7.
