A weeklong series of events next month will commemorate the 125th anniversary of Thomas Edison's invention of the light bulb.
The celebration of Port Huron's most famous former resident will feature an appearance by actor Mickey Rooney, who portrayed Edison in a movie.
Details are being finalized on the weeklong bash, which so far includes events geared toward history buffs, stamp and coin collectors, rare-movie fans and train enthusiasts.
Rooney, who starred in the 1940's film “A Young Thomas Edison,” filmed partly in Port Huron, will visit Oct. 17 and 18.
Edison was born in 1847 in Milan, Ohio. He lived in Port Huron from 1854-to-1863. He also is credited with inventing the phonograph.
