State regulators on Tuesday fined Consumers Energy $40,000 for including an advertisement for its appliance service program in its April 2003 bills.
The Michigan Public Service Commission said the Jackson-based utility violated its February 2003 order which prohibited such ads to be included in monthly bills.
Regulators also demanded Consumers Energy stop violating their orders in the future.
Tuesday's order affirms the recommendation of an administrative law judge to fine Consumers Energy $40,000 for its misconduct.
Consumers Energy spokesman Jeff Holyfield said he couldn't comment on the order Tuesday night because he had not seen it.
