Michigan Army National Guard Soldiers to Deploy

Hundreds of Michigan Army National Guard soldiers are preparing for deployment to Kuwait.

Friends and family of the 330 soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 182nd Field Artillery unit are to gather Saturday to say goodbye to their loved ones as they leave for Fort McCoy, Wis., and then to Kuwait for a 12-month tour of duty.

The soldiers will train for about two months at Fort McCoy before deploying to Kuwait in support of Operation New Dawn.

The departure ceremony is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit.
