A good majority of MSU students may not be able to vote in the University's district, District 8.
A new voting policy enacted under Governor Engler in 2000 requires all Michigan residents to vote in their home district, as designated by their driver's license. For most MSU students, that's not East Lansing.
Because of that policy, students have three options. They can send an absentee ballot to their home district, get in the car and drive there on Election Day (classes are in session that day), or they can go to the local Secretary of State's Office and have their home address changed to reflect District 8 as their voting district.
Most students we spoke to say the policy is an inconvenience, but they still plan on voting.
