More West Nile Cases Confirmed

Another 52 cases if West Nile virus have been confirmed across the state, and two of the cases were fatal.

None of the new cases were reported in mid-Michigan. These latest cases are from Kent, Macomb, Oakland, Saint Clair and Wayne counties.

This brings the total number of cases in Michigan to 101, and the total number of deaths attributed to the virus is five.

"It is crucial to recognize that we will continue to see cases of West Nile virus in Michigan until after weather conditions change dramatically and we experience a hard frost," said Department of Community Health Chief Medical Executive David R. Johnson, M.D. "It remains vitally important for individuals to continue to take common sense precautions to minimize exposure to mosquitoes, as we expect mosquito activity to be aggressive in the last weeks of warm weather."
