MARSHALL, Mich. (AP) -- The state of Michigan is asking hunters to avoid part of the Kalamazoo River where oil spill cleanup continues.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment says hunters should avoid the river from Interstate 69 west to the west side of Morrow Lake. The reminder was issued as goose hunting season began Wednesday.

The state says that with hundreds of cleanup workers on the job officials want to ensure hunting isn't near cleanup work to maintain safety.

An Enbridge Energy Partners pipeline leaked between 820,000 and more than 1 million gallons of oil near Marshall in a spill reported by the company on July 26. The pipeline runs from Griffith, Ind., to Sarnia, Ontario.
