CLINTON CO. - A determined driver involved police from 8 different departments in a chase through mid-Michigan. Stop sticks were needed to put an end to the chase that started in Lansing and ended in Owosso Wednesday evening.
At around 7 o'clock Lansing police told surrounding law enforcement agencies they were northbound on US 127 in pursuit of a car involved in a hit-and-run crash. Lansing police officers ended their pursuit, deciding it wasn't worth the risk to other drivers, and sent out a description of the vehicle.
Deputies from the Clinton County Sheriff's Office soon spotted the car on 127 near Townsend Road and attempted to make the stop. The driver would not stop, and the deputies maintained a pursuit onto eastbound M-21 to the City of Owosso. There, two sets of stop sticks were used against the car's tires. Even after the spiked sticks blew out the tires, the deputies say the driver continued for another half a mile before finally coming to a stop.
The 20-year-old Owosso man was arrested without further incident. No one was hurt during the initial hit-and-run or during the chase.
A spokesperson for the Clinton County Sheriff's Office says they are still investigating the incident, but why the man ran is a mystery.
The sheriff's department says the driver has no criminal record. The initial accident in Lansing invovled no injuries and minimal property damage, according to a Lansing police spokesperson.
The Clinton County Sheriff's Office was assisted by St. Johns Police, Ovid Police, Elsie Police, The Shiawassee Sheriff's Office, Owosso Police and fire departments, and the Michigan State Police.
