People are putting pedal to pavement in downtown Lansing, to spread the word about a new way to explore the city on two wheels.

"I cycle to work when I can from Yplisanti to Ann Arbor. I have averaged about 3,000 miles a year for the last 3 years. It feels really fantastic to be out in the elements. I have experienced seasons in different ways than i ever would have in a car," said Natalie Hollbrook, a recreational cyclist.

The Ingham County Land Bank wants to get the wheels moving on a new bike share program coming to Lansing.

"There's no better place than the state capital here in Lansing for a bike sharing program to get kicked off and hopefully replicated in other cities around Michigan," said Eric Schertzing, the Ingham County Treasurer.

Once they get funding in place, the program would start with four bike stations placed around the city.

"When your ready to leave, you can just pick up a bike and take it to your next destination," said Tyler Reeder, a B-Cycle Demo Representative.

Anyone with a credit card can check out a bike as many times as they like for just $5 a day. But, there is a time limit of 30 minutes before late fees kick in.

"The fees are between $1 to $4. It is aimed at short term check outs," said Reeder.

So they'll be available for more people to take a ride.

"It's fun, healthy and an environment friendly way to get around the community," said John Lindenmayer, another cyclist.
