Many companies are adjusting their practices with sustainability in mind. This, to satisfy a growing consumer demand for greater environmental responsibility.
A recent Nielsen poll of internet users found that 51 percent of those polled say it's "very important" for businesses to improve the environment. But during a recession, people tend to think green products and practices are too expensive or inaccessible.
However, companies like Frito Lay are already utilizing successful conservation methods. Since 1999, the company has reduced its water use by 39%, natural gas by 30%, and electricity by 22% for each bag of snacks they make.
PayLess Shoes recently unveiled a new line of affordable footwear and accessories made from certified-organic and recycled materials. Their product packaging is just as eco-smart. Using 100 percent recycled shoe boxes and soy-based inks for the printing.
Companies like these lead by example, offering real choices when it comes to how we can all reduce our own environmental impact.
