Call it The Love of Learning Boat.
Fifteen teachers from seven Great Lakes states are preparing for a week-long Lake Huron Shipboard and Shoreline Science workshop aboard the Lake Guardian, a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency research vessel.
The 180-foot ship is to depart Saturday from Detroit and visit ports of call on the Detroit River, Lake St. Clair, St. Clair River and Lake Huron ports of call.
The Michigan contingent includes four teachers from Detroit and one each from Flint and Carson City. They'll be joined by teachers from Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Michigan Sea Grant educators will help the teachers create classroom lessons based on what they learn about ecology and lake systems during the voyage, which is to end July 31 in Alpena.
