Environmental concerns. Economic concerns. Sometimes it seems there's a clear divide on issues like these. But there is a lot of middle ground. And the Catholic community has called for care for God's creation and care for the poor and vulnerable in a new way.

According to US News, the Catholic Climate Coalition asks Catholic families, parishes, schools and hospitals to consider their environmental impact and its effect on the disadvantaged. Church officials say the poor bear the brunt of climate change. With nearly 68 million registered Catholics in America, this could have a positive, far-reaching impact.

And a recent poll shows Catholics are ready to act. Over half of Catholics identify global warming as a serious problem. More than two-thirds believe that we know enough about global warming to act now. And two-thirds of Catholics also believe that future generations will be affected by climate change.

Catholic Health Association hospitals serve one in six Americans. They plan to revamp hospital practices to minimize waste and emissions.
