$800 billion is a whole lot of green. With the federal stimulus package, that's true in more ways than one.
The bill passed in February includes nearly $80 billion for renewable energy, energy efficiency and green transportation.
President Obama says the stimulus package will create or save three and a half million jobs over the next two years.
Many of these new jobs will offer the opportunity for workers to get training and learn new skills.
Stephen Schneider is a professor of Environmental Sciences at Stanford. "The learning about how to have green tech is going to produce millions of new jobs. We have to be fair and during that transition help coal miners and others who did it the old way through, so that they can become part of the new economy. And that's gonna take major investment and produce a lot of jobs. Given that the stimulus package includes money for retraining, it's helping to clear a path to a cleaner energy future."
