Congress hasn't settled on a national renewable energy standard yet. But the states aren't waiting around.

Already 24 states and the District of Columbia have standards in place. In New York, the policy will help boost the renewable electricity used by consumers to 25 percent by 2013. That's well ahead of President Obama's proposed goal of 25 percent by 2025.

Colorado voters pushed their state to get greener in 2004. That year Colorado became the first state to create a renewable energy standard by ballot initiative. That standard was 10 perent. In 2007, the governor doubled that amount. Colorado expects to create more than 600,000 jobs and nearly $62 billion in revenue by 2030.

With manufacturing on the decline, jobs that are being outsourced to overseas- investing in new renewable energy infrastructure: solar, wind, geothermal a super transmission grid, will create literally millions of jobs.
