We all know the sun helps plants grow - but there's another kind of plant sprouting up: new manufacturing plants to help produce thousands of solar devices each year for home and business.
Sanyo Electric Company recently announced it's building a manufacturing plant in Salem, Oregon. And First Solar, Inc. broke ground on an expansion of its Perrysburg, Ohio facility. The more companies that make solar technology more widely available, the greater the supply to meet the growing demand for cleaner, sustainable energy sources. Businesses are jumping aboard the solar train as well.
In Tolleson, AZ, Gatorade recently installed advanced solar devices that capture the sun's energy, producing more than 760,000 kilowatt hours per year -- equivalent to the amount needed to power about 50 households for one calendar year.
The options for your own home are growing too -- from larger solar arrays on your roof, to pool heaters, to simple accent lighting for your yard. The best part, it's a clean, renewable energy source and there's probably a solar device that's right for you.
