Having A Green Super Bowl Party

Football's biggest game is coming up and you can score a touchdown by sticking to this simple gameplan to reduce your impact on the planet. Your first play of the day is to pass on using paper products.

Use email invitations or call to invite your fellow fans over and once you've kicked off the party, avoid using paper products like plates and cups. You'll help block waste from going into the landfills.

Encourage guests to combine their driving by carpooling or taking public transportation. This will help stop the blitz of CO2 emissions put into our atmosphere.

Rather than calling for delivery, opt for locally grown food. Local meats, vegetables and fruit along with healthier snacks are all good options. And have a little fun hunting for a local micro-brewery for game-time beers.

And finally, go for the sack - I'm talking designated recycling sacks for bottles, cans and other recyclables. So no matter what your favorite team's colors are, you'll be a winner by playing for the "green" team. I'm Jill Cordes.
