Looking For Green Gifts

It's possible you might be feeling a bit squeezed this holiday shopping season. But that doesn't mean you can't think green by buying gifts that are made from recycled materials, and that will last a long time.

If you're looking for clothes, ask if the store has what you're looking for in "green" - meaning, made from certified organic or recycled fiber by Fair Trade workers.

Toys often top the wish list, so consider buying "green" dolls, stuffed animals, and games made in the U.S. from certified sustainable materials finished with non-toxic glues and paints.

And for the gadget lover, make sure you look for the greenest options, or Energy Star rated electronics and appliances. They use less energy, save money, and help protect the environment.

The National Retail Federation estimates that consumers will spend $470.4 billion during the 2008 holiday shopping season that's more than $1,000 per household. So buying the greenest possible goods this season is a great way to let companies know they should provide more green options available all year long.
