Many students are fanatics when it comes to school pride in their sports teams. Well now we can add another source of student pride to that list: recycling. That’s right. RecycleMania is a friendly competition for college and university recycling programs to get students fired up about reducing waste on campuses nationwide.
Colleges and universities are like small cities that use up lots of resources and generate a lot of solid waste. RecycleMania is a great way for campus recycling coordinators and student green teams to recycle and reduce waste in a fun and friendly way.
The 10-week competition was started in 2001 between Miami University and Ohio University. The next one will be held January 18th through March 28th, 2009.
See if your kids’ school participates, or create your own friendly recycling competition at home, in your neighborhood or at work.
This year, RecycleMania participants recycled 58.6 million pounds of material. That’s like the weight of almost 17,000 cars
