With the kids back in school – you might be feeling like you have a little more energy. Well, guess what? October is Energy Awareness month. But the energy I’m talking about is what powers our everyday lives—like electricity and this month is all about how to reduce the amount of energy we use.
The theme of Energy Awareness Month is all about securing America's energy future with clean energy solutions. For instance, keep air vents clear and change filters on your air conditioner regularly. It could take 25% more energy to pump air into a room with blocked vents. And make the switch to compact fluorescent light bulbs, or CFLs.
Americans are taking positive action to make buildings more energy efficient through LEED certification. And companies like Frito-Lay and UPS are making their large truck fleets more fuel efficient.
And check this out. The Department of Energy has some cool posters and light switch covers that you can order. You can hang them up at your home or at work. You can help remind everyone how important it is to save energy all year long
