Since 1992 the EPA has been awarding it’s seal of approval on appliances and heating & cooling products that meet standards of energy efficiency. But you might not realize is that Energy Star does a lot more to reduce energy waste.
Energy Star provides energy-saving recommendations for products in over 50 categories – everything from ceiling fans to microwave ovens to refrigerators. These approved products use 10-50 percent less energy than standard models.
On a larger level, Energy Star has partnered with the private sector to recognize companies that achieve better energy efficiency.
Frito-Lay, VP of Sustainability Dave Haft says this provides a linkage between business, government, and between businesses to share best practices in regard to energy efficiency and this ranges from large manufacturing companies like Frito-Lay to companies that are building homes or manufacturing equipment.
It’s a great example of your tax dollars at work on two important goals: saving you money and reducing your impact on the planet.
