K-2, bath salts and other designer drugs must be off store shelves today as the state wide ban takes effect.

According to the law, anyone caught selling or manufacturing the drugs could face felony charges. Governor Snyder signed the law prohibiting the sale of synthetic drugs on June 19th.

The substances have been blamed for health problems and violent behavior especially among young people. In preparation for the ban, law enforcement officers have been visiting stores reminding them officers will have zero tolerance for K-2.

"If they refuse to stop selling it we will take action," Captain Bill Mitchell, with East Lansing Police said. "That's what the law is going to be and we will take appropriate action and enforcement as necessary."

Manufacturing or selling the drugs is a seven year felony, possession can bring two years. All signs advertising the drugs must also be removed. Police are encouraging people to call if they see someone selling or using designer drugs.

The state tip line is 855-MIC-HTIP.
