Michigan State Police are investigating an accident that caused long traffic delays on I-96 Sunday evening.
The lone vehicle was traveling west bound on I96 near Clintonia Rd. when the vehicle drifted off the roadway striking a sign. The vehicle then struck the cable guard which caused it to roll multiple times. Two of the passengers were ejected from the vehicle. One of the passengers told Troopers the vehicle started to drift toward the cable barrier and he yelled at the driver. The driver was unable to get the vehicle back onto the road. At this time, the reason why the vehicle started to drift off the roadway is unknown.
The vehicle involved was a 2009 Jeep, silver in color.
The 56 year old driver, Karin McCarthy, was flown to Sparrow Hospital for treatment as was the 16 year old male passenger.
The other two passengers, a 15 year old male and a 17 year old female were transported by ambulance to Sparrow Hospital for treatment.
The crash is still under investigation.
Troopers were assisted by Portland Fire, Rescue and Ambulance, Portland PD, Aero Med, and Life Net.
