What's Going Around: Adnenovirus

The CDC says the worst of the flu is behind us, but in this week's What's Going Around Report, Mid-Michigan doctors are warning of a virus that mimics the flu.

Doctor Belinda Miller, with Kids First Immediate Care in East Lansing, has been seeing a lot of patients with illnesses caused by Adenovirus.

In addition to flu-like symptoms, these viruses can cause diarrhea, pink eye, bladder infections, stomach problems, and issues with the brain and spinal cord.

Treatment varies, depending on the type of illness.

Adenoviruses are usually transmitted through touching, coughing, sneezing and not washing your hands.

Doctor Miller says prevention is key.

To protect yourself, she recommends washing your hands frequently and avoiding close contact with sick people.
