EAST LANSING, Mich. (WILX) Mid-Michigan doctors tell us they're seeing more cases of conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye.
Pink eye is the infection of the membrane that lines the eyelid and part of the eyeball. Dr. Belinda Miller with Kids First Immediate Care says pink eye affects people of all ages.
Symptoms include redness in the white of the eye, watery eyes, thick yellow discharge that mats the eyelids together, itchiness, and blurry vision.
Treatment depends on what caused the pink eye. Viral infections have to run their course. But pink eye caused by bacteria can be treated with antibiotics.
Pink eye is extremely contagious. Dr. Miller says infected children should stay home from school until the symptoms are gone.
