Veterinarian removes 21 baby pacifiers from dog's stomach

EDMOND, Okla. (WILX)- Most dogs are known to jump up on the counter from time to time to snatch a piece of food or something else they shouldn't have. But a 4-year-old Shar-Pei in Edmond, Oklahoma loves to steal baby pacifiers.

A veterinarian found 21 pacifiers in the stomach of the Shar-Pei named Dovey. "You can see here; these are all of them stacked up on each other in the stomach,” said Dr. Chris Rispoli, a veterinarian at Gentle Care Animal Hospital. "In 20 years, this is the craziest surgery I've ever done."

Rispoli said Dovey's owner brought her in Wednesday to get a check-up and he noticed Dovey had lost a lot of weight. "Dad said grandma had seen her jump up on the counter and grabbed one of the baby's pacifiers and they had been missing a lot of pacifiers,” Rispoli said.

The vet conducted an X-ray and was shocked at what he found. "We thought there were seven to nine in there, and I pulled out 21," said Rispoli. He reminds pet owners to never leave anything out on a counter for a dog to get into.
Dovey has recovered from her procedure and is headed home today. The house has now been baby-pacifier proofed.
