PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WILX)- A small plane crashed in the parking lot near the Robertson Field Airport in Plaineville, Connecticut Monday morning. The crash was captured on surveillance camera.
Authorities say the 1981 Cessna 172 crashed behind a business adjacent to the airport just before 11:30 a.m. The pilot, Manfred Forst, age 79, said he was headed to breakfast when the plane crashed.
Witnesses who saw the plane falling from the sky say they knew something was wrong. "I was sitting down at the end of the parking lot here," said David Thayer. "I looked up because I heard the plane. Saw it going directly across probably 200 yards from where I was sitting, knew it was going the wrong way obviously." "He was going very slow, so I started walking briskly up here real fast and I heard the bang and knew that he went down."
Forst was treated at a hospital in Connecticut for minor injuries. "I was very fortunate I got out of it without any real injuries," Forst told NBC Connecticut." I'm just so thankful." The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
