Team to help out young Oakland A's fan

SANTA ROSA, Ca. (WILX) -- The Oakland athletics is helping out a young fan after he lost all of his precious A's memorabilia when wildfires destroyed his California home.

Nine year old Loren Smith wrote a letter to the team telling the A's how much of a fan he was and that he wanted to be a big league ball player for Oakland when he grew up.

Smith says he lost 17 athletic jerseys and 10 hats in the fire.

Well the president of the Oakland A's quickly responded to young man's letter with a tweet saying the organization would be happy to completely outfit Smith's family with brand new A's gear.

After the tweet was shared, fans began showing their support on social media by asking how they could help, so the team set up a fund for Smith's family.

We're happy to report Smith and his family will get a chance to meet with the team later this week.
