Police Officer Beats Teen in Racial Provocation

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WILX) -- A police officer finds himself on the wrong side of the law after beating a teenager, all caught on body cam.

Authorities said the beating may have been provoked by a racial comment made by the teen when the officer was responding to a domestic disturbance on February 27th, 2017.

The teen was said to have told the officer, Samuel Rosario, to "Go back to Mexico," prompting the challenge that lead to Rosario beating the teen. Authorities have released that body cam video that captured the beating.

Springfield police say the officer was arrested on preliminary charges of official misconduct and two counts of battery. Rosario has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation.

Rosario is expected back in court in May.
