Police: 92 year old man going too fast for conditions started I-94 pileup

GRASS LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WILX) An elderly man going too fast for conditions started a massive pileup along westbound I-94 in Jackson County on Friday.

Blackman-Leoni Public Safety Director Mike Jester says the 92-year-old from Allen Park was cited for speeding.

The man was trying to pass another car around 10 a.m Friday near Race Road when he lost control, slamming into other cars. That started a chain reaction crash. Jackson County Undersheriff Chris Kuhl says 39 vehicles were involved in the pileup. MDOT reported white out conditions at the time of the accident.

It took authorities around 3 hours to clear the wreckage and reopen the freeway.

Luckily, no serious injuries were reported.
