JACKSON, Mich. (WILX)-- Jackson's Northwest Mounties take their football very seriously. That hard work is paying off. Northwest Elementary and Middle school youth football teams are proud to be the only teams representing Mid-Michigan at the "Pro-Football Hall of Fame National Football Championship." The Mounties and dozens of other top youth football teams from across the country are meeting up for the regionals December 1st to 3rd, in Canton, Ohio.
Douglas Putnam, a 6th grader playing with the Mounties, said, "It's our first time going down there, so it's a good opportunity to learn some new things."
"We're gonna try our best and if we're losing, push through to try to win it, " said 4th grade quaterback Darius Ambs.
It takes more than talent for teams to make it to the champsionships. The athletes must demonstrate a positive work ethic, dedication and team spirit. Despite blazing and freezing temperatures, Mounties' parents help make sure kids get to practice all year long, as well as fundraising to make sure families could come along on this special championship journey.
The Mounties and their families will also visit the Pro-Football Hall of Fame. The Mounties need to win during the championship's first weekend in order to head to the nationals two weeks later on December 15th to 17th.
