GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A plea deal is in the works for a former doctor at Michigan State University and USA Gymnastics charged in federal court with obtaining and possessing child pornography.

Documents show a guilty plea has been signed by 53-year-old Dr. Larry Nassar.

A guilty plea could mean that a trial will not be held.

Documents indicate Nassar is agreeing to plead guilty on three charges. Those charges are Receipt of Child Pornography, Possession of Child Pornography, and Destruction and Concealment of Records and Tangible Objects.

Nassar could serve up to 60 years behind bars.

The court document indicates Nassar “knowingly downloaded images and videos of child pornography from the internet” between 2003 and 2016.

Nassar paid $49 to have the hard drive on his laptop wiped.

Nassar also faces trial in three Michigan sexual assault cases.

A formal plea agreement has not been filed.

Nassar is due back in court in August.
