IONIA, Mich. (WILX) The Ionia County Health Department is holding a Hepatitis A vaccine clinic Wednesday in response to the outbreak spreading in Michigan. The clinic runs from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM at the Health Department office at 175 East Adams Street in Ionia. The Department accepts Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Medicaid. People who don't have either of those insurance plans will have to pay $47. The vaccine is free for the following high-risk groups:
- homeless or transient
- intravenous drug users or people in recovery from intravenous drug use
- people with chronic liver disease
- men who have sex with men
- people who were recently incarcerated
Hepatitis A affects the liver and can be deadly if left untreated. No appointment is necessary to get vaccinated. Anyone with questions can call the Ionia County Health Department at (616) 527-5341.
